Thank you! I love Diesels too, and one of these days I’ll convert a newer Tacoma to the new European Toyota D4-D commonrail turbo-Diesel, as a daily driver. No funds now, though 🙁 . I painted that black truck myself back in the summer of ’95, when you could still get the good illegal PPG Delstar paint. It’s still in good shape, even though the truck was stored outdoors for a year or two during the early 2000s. The new paints are crap.
I love the sound of the diesel engine. I love the rumble and the whine of the TurboCharger. Now, how about going for a ride in the truck. That’d be so awesome!
I don’t have the exact specs, but this engine is rated at about 87 hp, and (If I recall), 255 ft lbs torque. In actual performance, you can compare it to the power of the 22R gas engine on a Toyota 4×4 truck with the same size tires & wheels. Plenty of power to drive around on & off road, but a little slow to go up a long grade at highway speeds. It will bog down to 55-60 mph on a highway up-hill.
Before I read your deion I thought, no way did that engine look 30 years old. Did you have any problems getting that engine smogged in CA? Nice paint job. I am not usually a fan of Toyota’s but they do build a damn good compact truck-and I like anything with a diesel.
I would like to see the truck in action. Do some more videos and also how is the gas milage? I have a 1984 Mazda B2000 and would like to find a good 4 cylinder diesel motor to go in it.
@84yotakid It was about $850 when I bought it in the 90s, but since then, they’ve gone up in the $2000 range. I bought that one from one of the Japanese used import engine companies, but can’t remember which one. If I did another one today, I’d go with a newer engine such as a 2KD-FTV, or at least a 1KZ-TE. I put that engine in the black truck in around 2002, or so; about 3 or 4 years after I got the engine.
oh you have the 94 horse power engine 2.4liter turbo diesel. I have the 97 horsepower 2.4liter turbo diesel 2lte model in my all original 1990 hilux surf right hand drive from Japan in canada aka 4runner. Have fun doing the head on yours when it cracks between the valves man. A common problem on the 2.4 turbo diesel. cast iron head in these toyota engines I solved that problem with mine. I put a aluminum head from a 2.8 liter non turbo diesel toyota engine.
@NELSONA6888 Being that mine’s the non-EFI, I shouldn’t have to worry about the cracking head problem. That happens to all the 2LTEs, but I’ve never heard it happens on the 2LII-T. This engine has the same head as the 3L (the 2.8). My other truck has the 3L, and I’ve abused that truck; so far no head gasket or crack problems in 300K km.
gr8 maintained engine as well as awesome paint job
i love your truck!!!! beautiful paint!!! i lvoe diesels, and i love old toyota’s, what a perfect truck!

YEAH! There is not a cooler Toyota truck in the US, maybe even the whole world!
Thats a nice ass toyota diesel.
Where did the diesel engine come from?
That one came from Japan as a used import engine. They did sell the 2L-T Diesel engine in the USA in ’85, however.
Aprox. How much power and torque does it make?

Ok, thanks for your time.
