This is a great idea. Diesel engines are more relible than gas engines in addition to being more economical.

Yeah but you are unable to get diesel engines in SMALL trucks in the US- which sucks. The smallest thing you can get with a diesel is a 3/4 ton pickup- which is really too big most most people, not to mention not as economical as a smaller diesel pickup would be (F-150’s, Rangers, S-10’s, Chevy/Dodge 1500’s, ect.)

    wow
    thanks for sharing your idea.
I think I will try that.
You broke grandma’s jar and trashed the kids model car by leaving it under the hood.LOL

The reason they can’t put these in from the factory is because of all the Environmental laws. It would never pass emissions the only way you could get away with this is by living in a state that doesn’t require emission testing.

    fantastic nice job
We should be using more diesels its a no brainer, it simply has more efficiency which means it uses less fuel.

    Great Job

    A 3.9 cummins might work

we cannot use tractor engines in everything
1 there isn’t enough to go around
2 it will look stupid in some vehicles (Ferrari)
3 we have to use all those technologies we have avaible.
4 one business will never be able to overthrow a multimillion dollar corporation.

those V8 stock diesels in pickups are absolute shit. semi engines are over twice as big and have only 6 cylinders. SIX! they should be smart enough to make 250 cube 4 cylinder diesels right out of the factory. what the hell is the matter with car companies today?

  14. dj25sent November 30, 2009 at 2:51 am #

    your so ignorant
why the fuck would you put tractor diesels in everything, you could put diesels in everything, and obviously, you know nothing about performance diesels from your comment about the ferrari, how about reading about audi r10 diesel, first diesel to ever win the lemans …

  15. Blondets1 December 2, 2009 at 4:28 pm #

besides the benefit of economy gains Diesel engines well the older mechanical setup can run on any oil/lubes so even if petroleum does run out you can run on veggy , algae oils.

I’m putting a 4BG1T in my S10, thats as close as I could get to a legitimate tractor engine.

  17. DrMotorDude December 20, 2009 at 8:40 pm #

Gary, YOU ARE CORRECT! ONE SIMPLE solution will change things. Gov’t mandates vehicle emissions limits for gasoline vs diesel engines COMPLETELY differently – stay with me folks-I’m not talking MILEAGE on new vehicles, I mean EMISSIONS.
Gasoline emission limitations are per distance traveled where diesel engines are limited per VOLUME OF FUEL USED….the deck is stacked against new diesels in the USA from the start. Watch Mahindra trucks, if they sell well things will change.

im lookin at a john deere 4.5 turbo diesel engine for my truck and its a four banger.

  19. jet62095 January 16, 2010 at 1:37 am #

Or you can manufacture your own engine to get it fuel efficient enough, instead of ruining good diesel tractors.

    sounds great

Gutless wonders, You’ll get run over trying to coax those swaps up a hill.

i wanna put a 4cyl turbo diesel in my s10

  24. novachevyguy February 17, 2010 at 5:19 pm #

Slow Down…!!!!! You talk too fast , getting yourself tongue tied..

  25. denrocks2 February 20, 2010 at 7:03 pm #

No, not really. Diesel engines tend to put out twice as much torque as their horsepower. You will have no trouble going up any hill. If it was a gasoline engine, yes you would have trouble. Not to mention they put a turbo on one of them.

  26. gary c brown April 4, 2012 at 5:25 pm #

the perfect engine for a s-10 is a 65 hp kubota turbo diesel ! top speed aprox. 95 mph it will achieve around 50 mpg !!! full size pick ups need at least 80 – 100 hp engines, and will run over 100 mph , and get aprox. 35 to 40 mpg!! we built mercury capri ,that we commonly refer to as a mustang , will out run most v8 s with a four barrel, and still get aprox 50 mpg ! you dont have to use a farm tractor engine any industrial diesel engine would work fine !!!they are very dependable and get great milage call me if you have any questions !!! thank you gary c brown
