Sometimes people are turned off by the cost that it sometimes takes to convert from fossil fuels to an alternative resource. However, the one thing that they tend to forget that not only is the conversion going to help the environment, it will, in the long run end up saving you money on the cost of fuel in the future. If you are determined yet don’t think you can afford the change, there are federal and local government grants that can help you pay for some of the costs to change to green energy.
The first thing to do is to go to the Grants website and register with them. Make sure to notate your user name and password because you will need to use it often after you have applied for your grant so you can track the progress.
There are different kinds of grants that you can apply for and you can got to the federal government grants site and enter renewable energy in the search field or simply browse the energy section of the website. You can also use their advanced search to find grants that you might be eligible for by entering your status like “Public Housing Authorities”, “Small Business”, “Individuals”, “For Profit” or “Nonprofit”. By doing this you will be able to find the grants that are available for any of these.
You should also sign up for their email updates that will send you emails letting you know when new grants open up in their database. This way if there wasn’t one available when you registered, you will get information on when one does open up for you to apply for. The information is constantly changing so signing up for these email updates could be very important if you are serious about applying for a grant. So don’t give up, even if you don’t see a grant right away, you never know when there might be one.
If you do find a grant that you qualify for then you need to download the application that fits your needs. Each grant has it’s own specific application so you need to make sure that you download the right one. Once you have downloaded it you will need to print it out. Make sure to pay close attention to the instructions, even if you have already filled out one that was similar the instructions can change at any time.
After you have printed out application make sure to fill it out completely. Even though they do have online submissions, it is better that you print one out and fill it out before you fill out the online application. This way you will make sure that you have the information you need on the form and that it is correct. It also gives you your own copy of the application because once you submit the online one, there is no copy of it online.
After you have filled out the application you can then transfer all of the information onto the online form making sure that you fill in everything the way you did on the printed form. Once this is done you can submit your application.
After the application has been submitted make sure to come back to the site often to track the progress of the application. This is where your patience is going to need to kick in. It’s a very slow progress. The reason for this is that every grant is different and it takes a while to process all of the individual grants.
Note: Make sure to be honest on your application, if they find you in a lie, there could be some stiff penalties.
