My husband works for a bus company and spilled diesel fuel all over his jeans. I tried washing with Dawn dishwashing liquid and baking soda-but they still have that diesel odor. Any ideas? Thanks.
Do you have a regular washer, with an agitator? If so, I highly recommend Tide detergent with Dawn StainScrubbers. Wash the jeans in water as hot as the fabric will allow. You may want to let them soak for several hours, even overnight.
White vinegar is great for getting out odors. You could use it in the wash (1/2 cup) and in the fabric softener dispenser (1/2 cup). Add some FS in the dispenser if you want scent and softness.
Also — you could hang them outside to dry instead of putting them in the dryer. Fresh air can deodorize them wonderfully.
If they are stiff afterward, you can put them in the dryer for about 5-10 minutes to soften them.
I would not put them into the dryer until all the odor was gone.
