My grandpa has one of this grain trucks. Those 2 stroke diesel engines sound like beasts. The sound scared the pants off of me when I was a kid. I love driving it and I am always looking at the tach. A 400-500 rpm range is all that type of engine has from idle to max rpm. Looks great and Sounds Great.
I could listen to that all day long and never grow tired of the sound of a 2 stroke Detroit. This one sounds exactly like our tanker….well not exactly… most of the time in that pull out one of the drivers would have missed a gear or ground it (why they put a 10 speed Roadranger in a fire truck I will never know!). I love those old beastly Chevy C-90/GMC 9500 chassises too, I wish to God I could find one (with either the 6’71 or a 6’53).
I got a 1973 GM JH9500 w/8v71, 9513 over, 38’s [4.44] on Reyco– good solid truck but pretty light d/line- hauled lots dirt with it- noisy though and not easiest on fuel- engine was virtually unbreakable
why is it revving so high? and why in neutral?
Max rpm is only 2400, it just sounds fast because it is a Detroit. The fast rev in neutral was to build air pressure because I was in a hurry.
LIGERO EL HIJO DE LA
yea a Detroit will sound like its runnin at about 9 grand when its only at 1600 rpm. love those old Screamin Deamons
detroit engine is very good.
I’m going to put one of these in my 1946 chevy grain truck. I love the sound of these monsters running through the gears.
Sounds like a fuckin skidder with a big ole twitch of rock maple behind her, roll on my friends, roll on..
i bet the dumbass thinks itll get air quicker when anything over 1200 rpm is a waist
