Why do people that have diesel trucks leave their trucks idling?

I was just curiuos why do people with diesel trucks leave their trucks idling for so long after they get off.

to run heat or A/C while there sleeping………………
Diesel engines take a lot of force to start, because they compress so much (my lb7 has a compression ratio of 17.5:1), so the starters are very expensive.
It takes more fuel to start a diesel than leave it running for a few minutes.
And more important in colder areas, it may be difficult to start one if it cools down. There are no spark plugs in diesels, you see, as compressing the air causes it to heat up, the fuel is then injected and the hot air causes it to combust. If the motor is cold then the metal itself will cool the air, causing very difficult start up.
If you’ve ever watched ice road truckers on the history channel, they say if they ever turn their truck off they probably won’t be about to get it started again.
