I was driving my diesel truck and when i hit the gas the truck feels like it looses power and blows out white smoke and black smoke. It takes a while to get power to the truck. What causes this.

One Comment to “what causes white smoke to produce out of the exhaust on diesel trucks?”

I will answer this question, referencing the symptom you describe, to why this would occur on a Ford 6.0L diesel equipped truck. The black smoke could be caused by an EGR valve stuck open, or opening when it’s not supposed to, or when there is excess fuel delivered. If you are seeing white smoke, it means the EGR cooler has failed, and you are burning engine coolant. The lack of power could be due to a turbo underboost caused by a stuck, or seized unison ring in the turbo. Hope this helps.
