Unleash Your Creative Ideas

Creative ideas are available to everyone. It really is a misnomer that creativity only happens to a ‘select few.’ The key to a successful creative life is to know how to unleash the genius that is inside of you.

What is creativity? In my viewpoint creativity is synonymous with the word receptivity. As a result, in order to be at your creative best, you need to be receptive to the flow of energy inside of you that is new, fresh and coming from a source that is often called your essence or true spiritual self.

It tends to be true; however, that creativity is like a muscle in that it needs to be exercised in order to consistently give back great results. Practice makes perfect in this case; just like a lot of other things in life, and the good news is that when you keep working at it, this skill soon begins to come to you much easier.
So how do you unleash your creative ideas?

A good first step for beginners to is read a lot. Gaining perspective on multiple points of view keeps your mind open to the infinite possibilities of the universe. The more you know, the more you’ll want to know, and the more your faculty of wonder will be exercised. Prepare to be amazed at little facts that add a bit of color into your life and let the creative energy flow.

It’s really important to focus on a particular creative activity every day. Where you choose to put your mental focus determines what you will see come back to you in your life. So nurture that creative instinct and you will begin to stoke the fires that fuel your personal creative spark.

It doesn’t have to be a monumental effort at first. In fact, if you set a goal of writing a book when you don’t yet know how to string a sentence together, you will overwhelm yourself and heighten the chance of discouragement along with quitting before you get started.

Even doodling is a creative activity, so if it feels good, do it. You might want to find some writers that you love and see if they have written a book on creativity that has writing exercises in it. Chances are you’ll enjoy doing those kinds of exercises yourself. Personally, I recommend Julia Cameron and my favorite book of hers is Vein of Gold.

Create a sacred space where you don’t do anything else but write. Make it a quiet place where you spruce it up with little things that you love to see like a colorful globe, a mystical pyramid, a goddess statue or a fantasy magician. Whatever makes you feel good and sparks your imagination.

Create a comfortable space where you can sit each day and write so the creative energy has a chance to build in that spot. If you don’t feel like writing on a given day, just sit there and generate good feelings inside of yourself. Let your mind drift to your favorite spot on the planet and allow your senses to enjoy it. Then come back the next day and repeat the process. In very little time, you will have built a place where creativity flows easily.

Some people enjoy keeping a journal, although it’s not for everyone. Just the daily practice of writing by hand can sometimes spark new ideas so try it and see what it does for you. If you find yourself writing stuff that is just verbal junk, keep putting it down on paper until it wears itself out. You’ll be surprised how many times that process can unblock a flow of creative ideas waiting to be released.

Think outside of the box. What’s more creative than coming up with original ideas? At least ideas that are unique to you.

Try something new every day and let your experiences broaden your perspective. Add a ‘first’ into every day you can. For example, explore a new neighborhood. Spend an afternoon in a museum you’ve never been to before. Chat up someone on the bus, airplane or subway that looks friendly. As you allow yourself to go outside of your comfort zone more each day, your sense of adventure grows and so does your zest for life
