Short Takes: 1995 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Turbo Diesel (Start Up, Engine, Tour)

Incontinuation of my “Short Takes” video series at All City Auto, I give a tour of a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Diesel. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this truck while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this truck designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

@Goldenrod636 at least it doesn’t have the scary buzzer like the mid 90s Dodges.

@fastestlapsDOTcom i know gearboxes and how they multiply torque, but compared to what modern diesel engines are putting out, its small. that is what i meant

@whatthehallbetch LOL You’re right! There are many six cylinder with more torque and power.

Heck, the newest 2 litre four cylinder diesel from BMW has got 204 hp and 295 ft lbs!

Yes it’s 12 (2007) year newer, but do today’s trucks have 650 hp and 960 ft lbs? Nope, it’s gotten 397 hp and 765 ft lbs and it’s even a little bit bigger (6.6).

@fastestlapsDOTcom Torque is always torque, but through a gearbox hp is all that matters (with twice the hp you can have twice the torque on a tire with the same speed) in which case this engine is even more pathetic.

    y 2 batteries?

interior looks just like our 1996 gmc sierra 3500(we have the leather seats though)…..We opted for the 454 (7.4 liter) big block….oddly enough it had more hp and torque than the diesel @ 290 hp, 410 lb torque….0-60 in about 10 seconds…….7 mpg city….It is not driven too much because of that.

  9. MrThestig8 October 21, 2010 at 12:54 am #

i think you should do that venture

  10. 2fast4all October 21, 2010 at 4:32 am #

    @sirmasterpimp damn..7 mpg?

  11. sirmasterpimp October 21, 2010 at 5:28 am #

@2fast4all Yep, no joke…..gets worse mpg than a hummer h2.

When gas was cheaper, it use to be a daily driver……I miss all that torque.

  12. 2fast4all October 21, 2010 at 5:31 am #

@sirmasterpimp have you considered a new silverado or sierra HD? those get 15-20mpg

  13. sirmasterpimp October 21, 2010 at 6:20 am #

@2fast4all not now, I do like the new duramax with over 700lb of torque though…..It’s the strongest diesel right now, over fords diesel and the cummins used in rams.

I wish you did a review of that Chevy Venture right next to the Silverado. I have been waiting for an in depth tour of a Venture for a long time. We actually have this minivan, 2002 base model.

  24. gaming221 April 20, 2011 at 7:28 pm #

i like that truck it’s one of the best chevy diesel trucks, how many rpm did it have on it?

  25. Winston2003 April 23, 2011 at 12:10 am #

@wq1299 Diesel engines don’t make a lot of power but they are in abundance of torque. That’s why heavy cars use them, as do work trucks and vehicles that aren’t gonna be used as ricemobiles.
