    most powerful production engines?

errr, i still beg to differ. example? the bugatti veyron has 1001 horsepower, and runs on gasoline.

in terms of non-production, funny-car dragsters have immense horsepower and they run off of some ridiculously potent fuel which i bet is much closer related to gasoline than diesel

A train has over 3000 hp, there are diesel boat engines with over 10000, so i beg to differ…

And if you want to talk about racing, diesel is just getting started, ever heard of the 24 hours at Lemans? One of the biggest races in the world was dominated by a diesel powered audi in its last running…

so then you’re talking about marine engines now? well of course, thats to be expected. and furthermore, im pretty sure funny car dragsters make more than 3000 horses.

and when it comes to Le Mans (which of course I have heard of, especially seeing as how I idolize the the GT40), the fact of the matter is accelleration isnt such an issue due to the constantly-high speeds. Gasoline will ALWAYS beat diesel in terms of accelleration

well considering that the truck has almost twice the horsepower as well as countless more torque, i think the mustang held up pretty well. you seem to be looking at only one side of things.

i have all the respect in the world for diesel engines, but i dont think the drag race at the end was by any means a fair contest, even despite the weight difference

Oh, i am not totally discrediting gas, I just think a lot of people are afraid of change, and therefore just ignoring diesels! I just think its great that you can turn somethin totally designed for hauling large loads and destroy cars designed for going fast! There are diesel powered dragsters in the sevens in the quarter now. Your right, thats not as fast as a top fuel, but they also make more than one pass without rebuilding the engine, and they are starting out with a truck engine too…

god this is freakin insane.. i love diesels its just straight craziness

Mustang: 4,000lbs, better aero dynamics, lower stance to the ground, chip or no chip your only lookin at a 30 to 40 horsepower gain, a fast production car. Ford Diesel: 9000lbs, aero dynamics, there are none, it would be like carrying a 4×8 sheet of plywood in 30mph winds head on. So say what you want a 9000lb machine running that fast in 1/4 mile, thats impressive.

Actually the most powerful locomotive-the GE AC6000- has 6000 HP and yes it’s diesel. The most powerful diesel engine in the world is in a ship that I forgot the name of. It produces a whopping 108,000 HP. But don’t get me wrong;I can’t imagine a world without gasoline engines. They’re awesome. Diesels belong in big rigs and heavy duty equipment only and possibly some pickups.

    DIESELS RULE

i bet they dumped at least 10k in performance mods to that diesel. put the same money in the stang and it wuld rail that diesel all day.

  12. bankspowerinsider June 20, 2008 at 4:55 am #

Actually… I think it was around $3,500 that was put into the truck

  13. 559MAN June 20, 2008 at 6:53 am #

even if u put THAT much (3,500) in to tht mustang it wuld beat the diesel

  14. jaymayisback3 July 13, 2008 at 6:24 pm #

if you put the diesel in a mustang and faced the mustang diesel would win

  15. 559MAN July 14, 2008 at 6:32 am #

i dont?? well okay if your willing to put all thos performance mods in a DIESEL your mpg is gona go to shit and im not down for 5bucks a gallon of diesel. but seriously besides that you dont theres just as much potntial for the mustang. you can get 700+ with a aggresive supercharger set up in a stang. and diesel are already turbo’d AND your talking about nitrous-just about any car can get 700+ on nitris b4 blowing up.

  16. 559MAN July 14, 2008 at 8:50 am #

    wtf u talking bout man?

okay gas is probably better for racing, but properly equipped, diesels can be as good or better. banks made a diesel pickup that went over 220 mph and drove it home and got over 20 mpg. diesels are much more versatile. try building a gas engine that you can compete with and use as a daily driver. i dont think so, it would be unreliable and get shit mileage. diesel gets 30-50% better mileage. diesel=20% more per gallon. cheaper.

They run in the DHRA & NADP and a Dodge 2500 (6,000+lbs)running 10.6 that can haul and tow it’s rated load isn’t bad. Ppl are starting to see 1200 hp and 2000 ftlbstq and triple digit turbo boost (psi) I haven’t seen a gas engine handle more than 30 psi (that is streetable) I don’t think gas engines suck, but the slow diesel days are over.

cost of viper compared to buying a disel and putting 15’000 in it, still cheaper then viper as well as parts and insurance and diesel will out run viper on qurter mile any day you do the math you gas lovers oh ya more per galling but better fuel millage bo ya

Stupid video effects / audio ruined it.
I love Diesels and always have.

Diesels are nice but still very costly. 05 truck would run any where from 15000-25000, plus all the go fast parts. Between tuner, full pipe, and intake, 1200-2000. Banks in pirticular. But they are nice!

Once again guys and gals. It’s perfectly fine to comment on the video. However, foul language, bashing and insults WILL NOT be tolerated. Your post will be deleted.

The ridiculous video effects were so over the top, nearly unwatchable.

    Shows how little you know.

if You want diesels to go fast You need to charge them. If You charge gas-engines they’ll beat the shit out of diesels. Diesels’ only (but nevertheless VERY BIG) advantage over gas engines is its mileage. My VW Golf III 1.9tdi can make even a 55mpg, but I still want Audi S2, which makes up to 35mpg.
