  6. josh216882000 January 5, 2010 at 9:41 pm #

Yea engine and trans together weigh about 1500 or 1600. The 453 is around 1200lbs on its own.

lovin the build up. why did you ditch the 6.2? was there something wrong with it or were you in the hunt for more power?

  8. josh216882000 January 7, 2010 at 2:11 am #

The 6.2 ran when it felt like it lol…but the guy i bought it off of killed it. He didnt believe in letting it glow before startups…he believed in ether, and it ruined the engine…it had no power, and would hardly ever start even on warm days. So i figured re-power, and why not go Detroit Diesel style, lol.

Hey, are those the stock front springs or do I see an extra leaf? Was wondering how it would handle the extra weight. Nice fab work!!!
Be nice once you get it all buttoned up to plumb a small intercooler in front of the rad. Might give you 10-15 extra horseys 🙂
    Great project.

Front springs are Tuff Country 3″ Lift Heavy Duty springs. They are 4 leaf springs, each leaf being .401 ” thick. I am seriously impressed with the way they handled the weight of the running gear in this truck. They worked perfect getting the oil pan away from the front axle.

Yea an intercooler would be a sweet idea someday! There is nothin wrong with some extra pony’s. Thanks for the comment.

how did you get all the rust off the frame and plow mounts? sanding? sandblasting?

  17. josh216882000 February 15, 2010 at 12:59 am #

snow plowing will be in the future. Im still trying to get her together..lol.

  18. josh216882000 February 15, 2010 at 1:04 am #

yea. from the time this video starts to the time it was primed and painted is about a 2 week span, that involved sanding, wire brushing, and my favorite which was using an air tool called a needle scaler for the heavy rust and old flaking paint.
