After 3 years of owning a car, you made a decision that you now need to sell it and purchase a new one. However, who would want a beat up car that has been used and abused for 3 years? Someone may want it but they may try low balling you for a price that is way below your asking price. And, you know that your car is worth what you are asking and you can’t really afford to lower the price even more.

However, who can blame your buyers. Your car looks quite old with its paint becoming dull and it has a dirty interior. The paint is also stained with tar, grease, squashed bugs, and other unimaginable things that you definitely don’t want in your car paint.

If you want to sell your car at a good price, the first thing that you need to do is get your car cleaned. And, getting your car cleaned doesn’t just mean washing the exterior with water and wiping it dry with chamois, but clean means getting it really clean that it looks like brand new.

So, how can you do this to an old, beat up, used car?

Simple…

You may want to try out some of the available car valeting and detailing services out there. Here, you will not just get a regular car wash, but you will definitely have a professional cleaning service for your car that you never thought existed.

They know how to deal with the paint job of the car and will use techniques that will bring out the true color of the car even when it is already dull.

Also, car valeting and detailing services have professionals that know everything there is about leather. This means that if you have worn leathers in your car, they will be able to recondition it and make it look like it’s new.

Basically, car valeting and detailing professionals will make your car look like it just came out of the show room. In fact, most people who loves to join car shows and display their car in it gets the services of car valeting and detailing professionals to get their car ready.

?Understanding the Increase In Diesel Fuel Prices

It was only in recent years that diesel fuel prices soared above gas prices. These two fuel categories used to have different peak seasons, with gasoline prices enjoying greater primacy in pricing over longer months. Gasoline then had the biggest gap in prices from diesel fuel during the summer months, when demand for gasoline peaked as a result of families taking long drives across states. Meanwhile, diesel fuels scored higher prices during the winter months, when the demand for distilled heating oils used at home increases as well. This is because distilled heating oil and diesel fuels are refined in the same facility using the same process, causing the demand for diesel fuel and distilled heating oil to act in a parallel manner.

The increase in the base price levels of both gasoline and diesel fuel has been primarily driven by the worldwide increase in crude oil prices. Crude oil is the basic ingredient from where different forms of fuels are derived from.

However, there are three particular reasons why the demand for diesel fuel have increased over time, the first being increasing demand, the second being the slackening demand for gasoline, and third being new environmental restrictions on gasoline.

First, there has been an increasing demand all over the world for diesel because of the increase in number of diesel-powered engines. In years when gasoline prices soared over diesel prices, car manufacturers produced cheaper diesel-powered vehicles in order to capture the market of consumers who wanted to save on gasoline prices. However, the fact that these diesel-powered vehicles have outsold gasoline-powered ones has obviously caused more people demanding diesel fuel to run their engines. This trend is true not only in the United States, but also in China, Europe, and India. With a limited supply of diesel fuel produced annually, increases in demand causes the price to distort upward.

In addition, the relative increase of prices of diesel fuel products have made gas prices appear much cheaper, especially with less people choosing to buy gasoline. Increasing consumption of diesel fuel has driven up its prices, whereas a near steady to decreasing consumption of gasoline has led to its price to remain stable, if not decreasing as well over time. This increases the relative price gap between the two.

Lastly, government legislation has caused the regulation that requires the reduction of sulphur content in diesel from 500 million parts per gallon to 15 parts per gallon. The process of reducing sulphur in diesel to this extent will cause greater expense in refining and producing retail-ready diesel fuel for consumption. In the year 2006, the goal was to have 80% of motorist traffic complying with this ordinance; by 2010, 100% of diesel available in the market must comply. As with all industries, the cost of additional stages of processing will be levied on the final retail prices of diesel fuels, causing a greater increase in prices above the already significant impact that high demand has on it.

When looking at diesel prices, it is important to appreciate what drives the increases in prices, and even the standards for when people say prices have increased. For the latter, the relative increase in diesel prices in conjunction to the relative stability or decrease of gasoline prices has increased the perception of more expensive diesel prices. The drivers for increases in diesel fuel prices, however, remain to be that of increasing demand for the limited supply of diesel fuel, as well as costly processing of diesel in order for it to comply with environmental standards.

?Factors Affecting Diesel Fuel Prices

With diesel fuel prices stabling a bit, there are still looming concerns about its future. This makes sense. If the record-high price of diesel happened before it will likely to happen again. But why diesel fuel prices went so high?

If you are going to conduct a survey, many would say that it is the greed of oil companies that drove fuel prices including gas and diesel to record highs in July. While everyone is free to speculate, it is always proper to steer away from opinions and look on hard facts.

Many do not realize that weather and seasons affect the demand for fuel. For example, during summer, many families drive their vehicles for vacation. One or two families cannot affect the price of diesel but summer vacations happen globally. This increases the demand for oil and drives the prices up. Winter is no different. While most people living in cold areas choose to stay at home, they use heating systems which draw energy from heating oil. Heating oil tends to set the prices of diesel so when the demand for heating oil is up, diesel prices are also up.

Another factor that affects the fuel prices is the demand. Demand drives the prices of any commodity up (including fuel). During the past few years, consumers have demanded for diesel engine vehicles since diesel is cheaper than gasoline. The increase in the production as well as the growing demand for diesel engine vehicles in countries including the United States, China, India and Europe has contributed to the spike in diesel fuel prices. In 2007, 50% of the total registrations in the United Stated are diesel engine vehicles. In China, the demand for vehicles is related to its growing economy. In India, there is a substantial increase in vehicle sales in recent years – 30% are diesel vehicles. In Europe, more diesel vehicles were sold in the past years than gasoline.

Now, we have seen a steep drop on world crude prices which reflects to low pump prices. From its record high of around $140 in July, crude oil is selling at about $40 to $60 per barrel. One reason is the decease on fuel demand as an effect of the global financial crisis.

Higher federal tax is imposed on diesel than on regular gasoline which is reflected to the price at the pump. This explains why on a certain period in time, diesel was sold higher than gasoline. (The federal excise tax on diesel fuel is 6 cents higher than on gasoline.)

Environmental restrictions also play a role in driving the prices up. The United States has shifted to ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel – a project that is going on since 2006. The process of converting into ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel is very expensive and refiners will have to impose this added cost on the consumers.

Transportation cost also increases the price of diesel. Generally, the prices of fuel increase if the distance between the retailer and the distributor increases. This is the reason why some areas have slightly different prices than others. Areas farther from the Gulf Coast have higher fuel prices.

Understanding the factors that affect the prices of diesel give you knowledge on how the pricing works. This knowledge will then help you find ways to go around the negative effects of unstable diesel fuel prices.

?General Information On Diesel Engines

Diesel engines offer the lowest specific fuel usage
of any other large internal combustion engine. The
fact remains, two-stroke diesels with high pressure
forced induction, particularly turbo charging, make
up a large percentage of the largest diesel engines.

Throughout North America, diesel engines are generally
used in larger trucks, where the low stress, high
efficiency cycle will lead to a much longer engine
life and lower costs to operate. These advantages
also help to make the diesel engine ideal for use in
the heavy haul industry.

Cars however, continue to use gasoline, primarily
due to the consumer desire for a wider range of
RPM. In Europe, the use of diesel engines with cars
is far more common.

Even though diesel engines are more efficient when
throttled down, they aren’t suitable for most types
of aircraft. The higher compression ratios of the
diesel cycle demand a much stronger block, head,
and almost all moving parts in general. These
stronger parts add a lot of weight, or a lot of
expense, especially if lighter alloys are being used.

The Otto cycle engines are much cheaper to build for
these reasons, although they have long been overtaken
by the turbine engines. For the same displacement
of the engine, Otto cycles will produce more actual
power than a Diesel cycle can, because the fuel
will burn at a much faster rate, allowing more power
strokes per minute than a standard diesel can offer.

What this means, is that less fuel has to be carried.
Additionally, commercial aircraft is normally run
at preset limits, so that Otto cycle engines used
in aircraft don’t suffer anywhere near the efficiency
penalties that land vehicles do. Heavy equipment,
such as those used in mining and construction,
almost always uses diesel engines.

Diesel engines are also used with submarines. In
these types of submarines, the diesel engine is run
when the submarine is on the surface, which charges
the batteries that power the submarine once it is
submerged.

All across the world, diesel engines serve many
different purposes. They are used with almost all
types of heavy machinery, and other vehicles. Gas
isn’t the way to go with heavy machinery, as the
engines simply can’t withstand the beating.

Diesel has been popular for many years with machinery
and submarines, simply because the engines can
last for years and years. Although they won’t offer
as much speed as gasoline, the torque and power is
still there.

?Diesel vs. Unleaded: The Truth About Fuel Economy

Ahh, you remember it, don’t you? Sitting in the back of your family’s station wagon as a kid, your father pulls up to the gas pump and a station attendant—an occupation about as extinct as the dinosaurs—came running out with a rag in his hand, leaned into the driver’s window and said… “Diesel or unleaded?”

Those days are long gone. And I’m not just referring to the attendant. Nowadays, at least in the U.S., you can expect to find three things at a gas pump: self-serve, pay first, and unleaded gasoline only.

Misconceptions about diesel fuel being “dirtier” than unleaded gas several years ago ultimately led to diesel’s obsolescence in the more environmentally progressive United States. Car companies began to manufacture cars that, for the most part, ran on traditional gasoline.

In response, however, steps were taken to improve the cleanliness of diesel and now major car companies have begun to sell diesel-powered vehicles to consumers once again.

In the past, especially in the United States, diesel fuel was considerably dirtier than unleaded gasoline. Vehicles in the United States also tended to be built for traditional gasoline, with the exception of large trucks, buses, and semis. In recent years, however, steps have been taken to improve the cleanliness of diesel fuel through regulation, and many companies have begun selling popular consumer cars that run on diesel fuel.

One such company is Isuzu Motors, known for its popular 5-passenger Ascender SUV, and two models of high-performing pick up trucks (the i-290 and i-370). Isuzu’s diesel engines have won a laundry list of awards in past years including “Truck of the Year” by Motor Trend Magazine, “Executive Diesel Car of the Year 2002″ by Diesel Car Magazine (a publication in the U.K.), “Germany’s best small and compact car of the Year 2001″ by Mot Magazine (published in Germany), as well as having been named multiple times by Ward’s Communications of the U.S. as one of the “10 Best Engines.” In addition, Isuzu vehicles were voted the top medium-duty truck brand six times in seven years by truck dealers. Impressive, but not fully convinced that diesel’s better? Keep reading…

Diesel fuel actually burns more efficiently than gasoline, thus having a better fuel economy—about 30% more efficient on average. Why?

Diesel is denser than its unleaded competitor. Proponents of gasoline are quick to point out that diesel engines produce more greenhouse emissions, which is true, emissions with diesel are about 15% higher than those of traditional unleaded gas due to higher volumetric energy density. However, the increased fuel efficiency more than offsets the higher percentage, so in the long run, diesels produce less emissions— 15% more per gallon used, but a trip in the good ole family car will use 30% less fuel to get to wherever you’re going.

Granted, this wasn’t the case with Dad’s old wagon. Back then, before the anti-diesel crusade, diesel engines were creating more emissions because they simply weren’t efficient. Now, with the modern diesel engine achieving a 20- 40% better fuel economy, it’s time to give diesel a second look.

But that’s not the only exciting news about diesel. Originally, the diesel engine was created as a way to run vehicles using vegetable oils. While farmers originally couldn’t compete with big oil companies, with gas prices soaring, there’s been a renewed interest in alternative fuel sources—and food-based diesel fuels can be produced quickly, cheaply, and with the abundance of products grown in our very own country. These “hybrid diesels” also known as “biodiesel” are compatible with existing diesel engines and can also be made from waste oils gathered from restaurants or homes—an alternative that serves several ecological benefits at the same time.

?The Ins And Outs Of Diesel Generators

Generators are used for electric power generation. Two categories of diesel generators are basically available in market- one is portable generator and the other is standby generator. Diesel Generators are mostly used to make sure that electric appliances can be run when there is a power failure. Standby diesel generators are mostly used in homes and offices and installed outside the house or office building. These are plugged in home wiring or electric power circuit. These can automatically detect power failure and start supplying power with in moments. Portable diesel generators are used on sites where there is much less supply of electric power and they can only run few small appliances like refrigerators, televisions and turnaces.

Diesel generators use comparatively less fuel and thus are more fuel efficient than power generated by gasoline or natural gas. For every liter of fuel consumed, diesel generators can run 2 to 3 times more efficiently than natural gas engines. There is no need of frequent maintenance for diesel engines, but gasoline engines need more frequent maintenance. Most diesel engines designed with water-cooled engine up to a speed of 1800 rounds per minute. This makes sure that the engine is durable, and makes it most dependable of all generators.

Unlike other natural gas generators and gasoline generators, diesel engines are very safe to use because they work on direct injection principle and they do not have any spark plugs. The unavailability of spark plug keeps them safe from fire. Diesel generator has a better shelf life. This is the least flammable source of fuel, hence can be stored for more time.

The fuel for the diesel generators is available at all gas stations and can be collected in comfortable cans. Main problems in case of diesel generators are: it is very hard to start them in cold weather, they are noisy and emit more smoke. Home diesel generators may cost $ 800 for 4 kilowatt to $10000 for a 15-kilowatt depending upon the rating, voltage consumption, quality and brand name. Diesel generators can also be used in industrial purposes. For industrial purpose they are available in range of 500 kilowatt to 2000 kilowatt.

Fuels such as diesel, gasoline, natural gas, or propane can basically power home generators. Some models of diesel generators also designed with multi fuel capabilities. The fuel choice of will depend on availability of fuel during emergency times.

?Diesel Powered Cars: Coming At You!

The number of diesel powered cars on North American highways has been dropping steadily ever since their peak in the mid 1980s. For many motorists, diesel engines conjure up images of pollution, poor power, and unreliability. However, one generation later and all that is about to change. New diesel powered vehicles will soon be arriving, in fact one is already here and receiving critical acclaim from auto enthusiasts.

Who can forget those diesel powered Chevrolet Caprices and Oldsmobile 98s that suddenly became very popular 25 years ago? If you are like many car owners, you want to forget those cars. What GM did back then was to take existing gasoline engines and convert them to diesel engines. These converted engines were loud, smoky, and very unreliable. They were unreliable to the point where GM had to pay tens of millions of dollars to replace failed engines with gasoline engines.

The memory of GM’s diesel fiasco was never lost on drivers who have spurned diesels to the point where many automakers are no longer producing diesel engines. Mercedes, a strong seller of diesel powered cars in Europe, no longer sells a diesel powered car in North America. VW is the lone importer of diesel engines while the U.S. manufacturers only place high performance diesel engines in their larger vehicles such as pick up trucks.

Another area that has stopped diesel engines cold is air pollution. Very stringent emission regulations have all but wiped out the possibility that many of the smaller diesel engines could be sold in the U.S. However, a change is in the wind as new technology is now in place that will make diesel powered cars cleaner. In addition, with the high cost of gasoline now prevailing, a diesel powered car has much more of an appeal to it especially since fuel savings of 20-30% are possible.

DaimlerChrysler recently introduced a Jeep Liberty with an optionally equipped diesel engine and this compact SUV is selling well with the optional engine. Its new 2.8L diesel delivers fuel improvements as high as 32% over a comparable gas 4×4 model and pollution is kept to a minimum. In addition, the added torque is a favorite with some, especially those who need to pull a boat or a camper with the Jeep.

Volkswagen will be bringing additional diesel powered cars to the North American market over the next few years. Diesel powered Golfs, Jettas, and possibly several larger model VWs will soon be traversing the highways and byways of Canada and the U.S.

BMW and Mercedes are both likely to be importing diesel cars over the next few years. Both automakers are studying the market to see if compact models could sell in North America. Each proposed model line is currently sold in Europe and diesel engines are a popular option with these cars.

GM is also considering tapping its relationship with Isuzu to import engines to be placed in several compact models. Long a producer of diesel powered vehicles, Isuzu has pretty much exited the North American market, but could return in the form of Isuzu powered cars sold by GM.

Chrysler will likely take its favorable experience with its Jeep division and begin to offer diesel engines on other trucks and SUVs. At the same time the all new Dodge Caliber, a replacement for the Neon, may eventually offer a diesel engine too.

Ford seems to be content with expanding its hybrid offerings and no other Japanese or Korean manufacturers appear ready to jump into the diesel movement…yet. Regardless, within five years the number of diesel cars on American and Canadian roads will likely triple. This can be a good thing for people wanting better fuel mileage, more torque, and a highly reliable engine.

For older diesel powered cars, they will continue to serve their purpose as owners discover how to extend their lives through useful aftermarket parts such as Bully Dog and competing products. With their rugged durability and well known reliability, a diesel powered car can easily reach a half of million miles or more before quitting.

?Diesel Versus Spark Engine Ignition

As you may already be aware of, diesel engines are
more efficient than gasoline engines of the same
power, resulting in much lower fuel usage. For an
efficient turbo diesel, the average is 40% more miles
per gallon. The higher compression ratio with
diesel engines help to raise efficiency, but diesel
fuel also contains around 15% more energy per unit
volume than gas.

Diesel engines that are naturally aspirated are far
more massive than gasoline engines of the same power
for two reasons. First, it takes a larger capacity
diesel engine than a gas engine to produce the same
amount of power. Essentially, this is because the
diesel can’t operate as quickly. The rev limit is
slower, because getting the correct fuel to air ratio
into a diesel engine fast enough is more difficult
than a gas engine. The second reason is due to the
fact that a diesel engine needs to be stronger to
withstand the higher combustion pressure needed for
ignition.

Diesel engines also produce very little carbon
monoxide as they burn the fuel in excess air except
at full loading capacity, where a full quantity of
fuel is injected per cycle. They can however,
produce a black soot from the exhaust, which consists
of unburned carbon compounds.

Often times, this is caused by worn injectors, which
don’t atomize the fuel sufficiently enough, or a
faulty management system that allows more fuel to be
injected that can then be burned with the available
air.

For commercial use that requires towing, diesel
engines tend to have more desirable torque. Diesel
engines tend to have their torque peak quite low
in their speed range which provides smoother control
over heavy loads when starting from rest, crucially
allowing the engine to be given higher loads at low
speeds than a gas engine.

The lack of an electrical ignition system in diesel
engines improves the reliability. The high durability
of diesel engines is also due to the overbuilt
nature as well as the combustion cycle, which will
create a less violent change in pressure when
compared to a gasoline type spark ignition engine.
Diesel fuel is also a better lubricant than gasoline,
so it is less harmful to the oil film on piston
rings and cylinder bores – making it routine for
diesel engines to go 250,000 miles or more without
having to be rebuilt.

For several reasons, diesel proves to be better than
spark engine ignition. Diesel engines last a lot
longer, they offer more torque, and they are also
more reliable. They are also more expensive as well,
although you get what you pay for. If you have
never owned a diesel vehicle, you owe it to yourself
to see everything they offer you – and you’ll find
yourself a very satisfied customer.

?Diesel Or Not

Diesel is often looked at as being smelly, noisy, and
many think the only place for it is in a tractor. The
truth to diesel vehicles is that they are slow, noisy,
smelly, although they are cheaper to run than gas.

Diesel engines aren’t as powerful as gas engines, as
gas engines produce more horsepower than that of a
diesel engine. Diesel vehicles however, offer more
torque than gas. Therefore, it is a very thin line as
to which one is better.

When it comes to power, diesel is the more expensive
of the two. Diesel powered vehicles are normally more
expensive to buy than gas, and the parts are a lot
more expensive than gas vehicles. The diesel however,
is more reliable due to it being less complicated
internally and heavier to build, therefore it normally
lasts longer than gas engines.

Economy is always a factor as well, as will fuel
prices being what they are. Now days, it costs a
small fortune to fill up a gasoline vehicle, especially
the bigger engines. When it comes to fuel, diesel
is generally less expensive. You can fill up a diesel
vehicle for less of a price, and the fuel will
normally go longer than gas will.

Appearance is also important. Diesel is generally
loud, with the exhaust emitting black smoke when the
vehicle is throttled. You can normally tell when a
diesel pulls off by the black smoke it leaves behind.
Keep in mind, this isn’t a problem with the engine,
just means that the fuel is dirtier.

Tuning is also important. Gas engines are more
tunable than diesel, as you can get better power
increases from gas than you can with diesel. The
major thing diesel owners tend to go for is turbo,
as it is one sure way to match gasoline in terms
of power.

A turbo charged diesel can and will match a standard
gasoline engine for power, if not slightly better it
a bit. This is why most diesel cars come turbo
charged, as its a way to keep up with the modern
diesel engines of today.

When it comes to making the choice, you really have
to choose what is best for you and your needs. If
you want power with plenty of tuning options, then
gasoline engines are what you want. On the other
hand, if you want power and torque, then a diesel
vehicle is what you want.

The choices are entirely up to you, as there are
certainly plenty to choose from. Always check out
the vehicle you are interested in, and find out
if it will match your needs. Before you know it,
you’ll have a diesel or gas vehicle that will perform
well beyond your expectations.

?The Basic Fact Sheet On Diesel Fuel Prices

As consumers, the basic basket of goods that we often purchase in the course of everyday involves diesel and other fuel products, making us susceptible to the impact of diesel fuel prices. Diesel fuel, gasoline, and oil are used not only in running cars and other transport vehicles, but also are used for cooking, heating the home, and powering diesel-powered equipment like snow-blowers, lawn-mowers, and the like. A huge chunk of expenditure goes to purchasing fuel to run these vital activities, which would justify trying to understand as much as one can about how it is priced and where the product itself is from.

To start with, diesel fuel is one of the refined versions derived from basic crude oil. Other forms of crude oil that results from refining include gasoline and distillate heating oil. This fuel type was named after Rudolf Diesel, the German engineer who created ignition engines that make use of diesel fuel.

Diesel petroleum is in fact a distillate of crude oil. While there are many types of distillates that can be derived from crude oil, Number 2 distillate is what is distributed for use in vehicles and equipment in many countries; it is also the same oil base used for distillate heating oils used to heat buildings and run industrial plants.

The chain of processes that create the value inherent in diesel fuel begins from the moment crude oil is purchased. Crude oil, as mentioned previously, is the base ingredient from where diesel fuel is derived. This base ingredient is traded internationally, with price determined by supply and demand dynamics. Crude oil is primarily produced by oil-exporting countries, all of which often belong to big oil cartels that dominate the supply dynamics in the market.

The demand for energy is not limited to the United States, but expands across Europe, China, and India. The thirst for energy for consumption occurs both in the level of industry, as well as individual consumers. On the consumer level, this means that the strong preference for diesel-powered vehicles has led to the need for diesel fuel in order to maintain the operations of these vehicles. In the industry level, expanding economies like China and India, and more stable economies like European ones, all rely on the supply of diesel fuel to run many of their transport sectors and even many of their industries. The high demand from both sectors has driven the prices of diesel fuel up: with limited supply, people use money in order to gain preferential access to the resource.

In addition, governments play a role in determining how diesel fuels arrive at the point of mass consumption. Governments levy hefty taxes on oil refining and distribution companies, many of which already run the regular gas pumping stations. Also, governments have required the reduction of sulphur content in diesel fuel, creating an expensive additional stage in the refining process to reduce sulphur. The additional burden of tax, the cost of operating distribution through gas pumping stations, and the cost of building infrastructure to enable them to comply with government ordinances have driven diesel prices to higher levels even if production costs considerations were ignored.

Knowing these drivers, and just what this resource is all about, allows consumers to better appreciate the dynamics of the energy industry. They will also be able to use their common knowledge of market dynamics in order to predict or protect themselves from diesel fuel prices inflation.
