Currently it has a output of 192HP and 395Nm at 1,5bar boost pressure. Bottom end of the engine is stock but cylinder head is finetuned. Boost-pressure-enrichement-device of the injection pump was further improved. A 525d would have no chance at all due its additional weight!
I think a well maintained 524td with its original rating is´nt slow at all, once in a time it was the fastest diesel passenger car of the world!

haha nice, one like that nearby is for sale for $700

it’s a shame it has a bent valve.

    I still want it.

Awesome tuning dude. Which intercooler did you go for and does it smoke a lot more now that it is at 190hp?

  5. eoghancbc September 23, 2007 at 8:23 pm #

Oh well if it now has 192 bhp, then I agree with you, an E28 is so much lighter than the E60, I just wouldn’t have said that the car in the video had 192 bhp, more like 150-160 bhp!

How fast is a stock 524td?(0-100 and top speed).

It is hard to believe that 20 years ago 116 bhp from a diesel was enough to be the fastest diesel car in the world ! Diesels have improved so much since then, nowadays we have the 6.0 litre Audi Q7 TDi with 500 bhp!

No way to install the intercooler :(, i unknow to install the pipes, and 525tds intercoler didnt work cuz 524td has oilcooler on same space… what intercooler you used? volvo one?

Javier, mi 524 acelera igual que un 525tds.
El montaje seria un intercooler pegado detras del radiador, tocar el tornillo de la wastegate, y punto… yo busco los tubos!!!

Well it’s true and you must belive it,when BMW put 524TD on the market it was the fastest diesel on the world, you must remember it was mid 80s and diesel engines by other company was slow, noisy and most of this engines was’t have an turbo.M21D24 by BMW had turbo,6 cylinders and 2.4l so it was a hell of disel when in this time VW had 1.5/1.6 4 cylinders non-turbo noisy diesel in his cars.

Great job, stupidbychoice, you’ve made a great job with your car, and you maintained it very well. I have a BMW 324 TD, and I think the engine is very good, and actually pretty fast for a diesel at that time.

So, what modifications has the engine that it is now so powerfull(i see there an intercooler, but apart from that)? i’m interested in a 324td E30 and i’m considering modifications to make it a bit more competitive.

You forgot the d24 engine (volskwagen audi volvo) it’s a 6 cylinder 2.4 liters 80 hp in na and 130 hp in turbo .
it has torque, rev high 5400 rpm and not noisy clang clang like the 4 bangers !
I’ve got 2 of them and they sound quite the same as the bmw engine but a little less feline it’s true.

notables prestaciones y estado del coche!

  22. perkinsmaster October 21, 2009 at 6:51 pm #

lol ? das ist dochn 6 zylinder un im vergleich zum D24 TDIC von volvo (VW) der auch keine 130 ps sondern nur 122 und das mit LLK hat ! läuft ein bmw wesendlich ruhiger nur so zur info 😉

I would never do that to a car. Way too nice of a car to do that.

i wondering for the modified one the mcanical injection has a pressure sensor? if ies the injection setteing can work with high efficienty at low boost? like 0.1- 0.2 ? i meen the injection is now set for a higher flow of diesel always or only in high boost? can the car still get 8 l of diesel /100km in city if not raced with?

My 84 td is even faster, but only downhill, I clocked it up to 235km/h hahahaha. Seriosly, mine with stock tires (175/70 R14) can reach 200km/h easily and the engine stile stock with 115km done. The problem with the stock tires is understeer, lots of understeer.
