6.5 Turbo Diesel Exhaust Smoke Stack Walk around

Walk around video of my 1999 Chevrolet 2500. I enjoy videos where people actually talk about their cars so I decided to make one too. Its pretty much stock besides the swiss cheesed air box with K and N filter and 5 inch stack. I mention the DVD player. In order to be able to view movies while driving simply ground the parking brake wire. I’ve been told its harder to bypass this in more expensive players. ***I dont think my truck is the greatest truck ever made. I’m making this video for 6.5 fans, openminded diesel enthusiasts and car enthusiasts who like watching everything cars. I know cummins diesels are the the best. I’m a GM fan and wanted an inexpensive Diesel truck that got 20 mpg so I picked this. Again I know Cummins are great engines. PowerStrokes and Dmax’s are awesome too =)***

    Ebay, I bought it from the user name Chromeroom

    Complete universal kit cost me $600

    I think a double stack kit will run about $800

    If I had a dually I would of went double.

    I agree with you… I share the love for all engines diesel. I have owned GM power for the past 10+ years, had a 6.5 natural residing in a K5 Blazer with 3 inch straightpipe duals. Sounded crazy. However, had to retire the old Blazer since it got too rusty underneath and I’m not a welder. I am stuffing my 6.5 into a K1500 Sub, so the engine stays happy, it now gets electronic controls and a turbo. I have owned 7.3 IDI Ford and Powerstroke 1st gen., and I want a Cummins IDI someday.

    Diesels were all about noise, that was one of the “privileges” of being a diesel owner back in the 90’s!! I still like the grumpy sound of my dad’s old 96 1st gen Powerstroke, and Cummins during that period were just as noisy (the old 12 valvers). But I like the smoothness of the Duramax, don’t get me wrong. I would love to have one in a newer body Sub, that would be the perfect family and vacation rig IMHO.

    I know diesels have 3 common things Low rpm,High Torque,& noise. I should of said the 6.5 doesnt sound like a diesel.(to me.)

    O ok, $800 man thats insane. I still cant get over how good it sounds! WOW!

    hey man how can you be a gm fan and say cummins is the best. i am a huge gm fan and duramax is the best by far. all of them from the lb7 to the lmm. my whole family drives cummins and they are constantly breaking down.

    I’m just realistic bud. I’m obviously a GM fan if I picked a 6.5 over the Cummins. The truth is the Cummins has beefier internals and can just handle way more power then the 6.5.

    If you want to get technical though the Cummins and Powerstroke isn’t even made by Dodge and Ford. The old 6.2 was a Detroit Diesel but the 6.5 is actually a homegrown made by GM diesel engine.

    @hks240

    I do like the Duramax more then the Cummins but like the Cummins the Duramax isn’t a GM engine its just on a GM vehicle.

    Like all vehicles some people just have bad experiences with certain brands and it just looks like your family has bad luck with Cummins engines.

    Most Cummins engines outlive 10 Dodge transmissions =)

    i like the gas cap cover, where did ya get that? All my auto stores never carry my body style which is the same exact style as yours.

  17. JohnFromSpace June 16, 2010 at 6:52 pm #

    @steelraptor

  19. JohnFromSpace July 2, 2010 at 2:39 am #

    @bubbleboyE40

    Yeah it barely clears the drive through signs =P

  20. JohnFromSpace July 20, 2010 at 7:37 am #

    @alexgonick

    Thanks for the kind words man.

  21. JohnFromSpace July 20, 2010 at 7:38 am #

    @hooksmason

    I wanted to be different. A lot of people who put stacks on their trucks cut it roof height. People either love or hate how tall the stack is on this thing =P

  23. pdxe22 July 28, 2010 at 5:31 am #

    thats a sweet radio ,but did you put any extras in the motor?

  24. JohnFromSpace July 29, 2010 at 5:00 am #

    @pdxe22

    I “Swiss cheesed” the air box, removed the turbo silencer,gutted the cat and added a K&N Filter. Thats it nothing major.
