Since so many public utilities, city and county governments use bucket trucks to do all kinds of maintenance and construction work, there is a great deal of interest in finding ways to minimize fuel costs as well as minimizing the impact so many vehicles can have on the environment.  A municipality will probably not just use bucket trucks, but boom trucks of various kinds, derrick digger trucks, crane trucks and dump trucks.  Any technology that can help bring the short and long-term costs of these fleets down is very welcome.

Across the country, more and more utility companies as well as city and county governments are becoming interested in diesel-electric hybrid trucks for their fleets.  While on the road, the hybrids run on a combination of bio-diesel and battery power. A hybrid is typically about 60% more fuel efficient than a regular diesel truck. This results in savings of $4,500 per year, per truck. Maintenance costs on the hybrids are also expected to be lower.

In addition, hybrid trucks have the ability to generate 25 Kilo Watts of electricity that can be used for homes while crews work on repairing outages. One truck can provide power to over a dozen homes. The bucket on these vehicles can be powered with an electric motor for up to two hours before the diesel engine needs to recharge the battery.  This reduces noise and cuts fuel used just for these operations by 2/3.

Several utilities have pioneered the use of hybrid vehicles through pilot programs that are a partnership with the manufacturers of the hybrids.  The utilities use the trucks for an extended period, then report back to the manufacturer on their likes and dislikes.  The manufacturer can then consider the feedback and possibly incorporate it into future versions of the hybrid.  There is a high level of interest in these pilot programs, because just about every entity that uses bucket trucks is looking for ways to save money.

With the success of hybrids already well-known in the passenger car market, it is probably only a matter of time before hybrid bucket trucks are widely available on the commercial market.  It seems that almost everyone is trying to find ways to spend less on fuel while at the same time being more environmentally friendly.  The new diesel and battery combination will probably spread all over the commercial trucking world, if it is found that bucket trucks can be effectively used this way.

While hybrid trucks are generally more expensive than their regular diesel counterparts, those trying to minimize their expenses might simply wish to wait a few years, and then purchases used bucket trucks and take advantage of the hybrid features that way.  It shouldn’t be too many years before the hybrids become widely available, and if they perform as well as are expected, local governments and utility companies will be very interested in purchasing vehicles they need to buy anyway, with the added advantages of significant savings on fuel, environmentally friendly reduced admissions, and lower maintenance costs.

A wide variety of trucks use an aerial lift system.  Utilities and private contractors have used bucket trucks, crane trucks, boom trucks and derrick digger trucks for a large variety of important tasks in repair and construction work.  The US Department of Labor has stated that about 26 construction workers die every year while using aerial lifts. It is therefore vitally important that truck operators understand some of the does and don’ts.

OSHA regulations state that employers cannot force an employee to use unsafe equipment, so one of the best things you can do to protect yourself is to perform a thorough safety inspection before using lift equipment.  Look for any leaks of air or hydraulic fluid, and make sure all emergency and operating controls are functioning.  Also check personal safety gear along with outriggers and guardrails.

If you find any problems with any aspect of the equipment, OSHA requires that it be properly repaired before use.  Mechanics should be familiar with the vehicle’s operating manual as well, and be sure to thoroughly inspect any vehicle that is returning to service from the shop.

Inspect the worksite as well; to be sure the truck can be parked on fairly level ground. and that there are no dangerous drop-offs or debris around.  Even if the surface is level, be sure to set brakes, wheel chocks and outriggers each and every time.

Many lift accidents occur because the operator has not thoroughly read and understood the training manual.  Contractors are required by law to provide manuals to all operators and mechanics.  If anyone is unable to read the manual, a qualified person must provide training on manufacturer requirements, correct lift operation, and how to deal with hazards.

Two of the most common lift accidents involve tip-overs and electrocution, so always stay at least 10 feet away from overhead power lines.  Insulated buckets can protect you from currents passing through you and the boom to the ground, but provide no protection if you should touch another wire.  You can prevent tip-overs by making sure you never drive with the platform elevated, and by staying within the height and weight load requirements as specified by the manufacturer.

Much of what needs to be done to prevent accidents can be accomplished simply by following all manufacturer and safety instructions every time you operate a lift.  Always keep lift doors closed, and avoid standing or sitting on the edges, or using them for support in any way workers should wear protective gear, including a full-body harness and lanyard. If you are working in or near traffic, always put out cones and any pertinent signage so that motorists know you’re there.

Even though it seems somewhat obvious, make sure that only trained and qualified employees operate aerial lift equipment.  Many accidents occur when an untrained worker “steps in” for a trained employee who is unavailable.  It is always better to wait until the job can be completed using only properly trained workers.

Bucket trucks, crane trucks, digger derrick trucks and boom trucks have many uses and are important tools in getting many jobs done. If you follow the above guidelines, you will be a safe and effective operator and avoid potentially serious accidents.

Before you obtain your HGV application and DVLA medical form it is important to consider the range of different HGV licenses that can be applied for. Unlike the standard car and motorbike licence, Larger Goods Vehicle and Public Service Vehicle licences require additional training that take into account the size and weight of the vehicle and the amount of passengers you will be carrying. Licence categories are largely determined by the weight of the vehicle. The unladen weight, the maximum authorized mass and the train weight are all taken into consideration. Additionally it is important to note that certain licenses have a specific age stipulation.

Before applying for the LGV licence check to see if your standard, full Category B driving license actually permits.  Some employers will require that you have held your Category B license for more than a few years,  whilst certifications and additional training can be required. It is important that you check that you vehicle you operate corresponds to the licence you hold Certain forklift trucks, dumper trucks, construction machinery, industrial tractors,  crop sprayers, as well as digging machines can all be legally operated on a Category B licence. Vehicles that are for people with a disability can be driven as long as the weight does not exceed 3.5 tonnes and carries no more than eight passengers including the driver. Additionally you may be allowed to drive a minibus with a maximum of 17 seats,  if it is not used for hire or reward by the passengers.  If you are looking to do this as a form of employment you will require an F extension on your licence.

If the vehicle that you will be driving is between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes you will need to apply for a Category C1 license, the minimum age being 18 years.  If the weight of the vehicle exceeds 7.5 tonnes a Category C is needed, taking into account that the minimum age is 21 years.  As of the 10th of September 2009 it will be possible to acquire HGV licences at the age of 18.

Once you have your standard license you can apply for upgrades in entitlements to specific categories. Providing you passed your driving test after the 1st  January 1997 it is possible for you to apply for a provisional license to drive a lorry, minibus or bus.

Called staging, you can apply to drive a larger vehicle. For example a standard category B licence holder can apply for a provisional C1 and E licence. Once a C1 licence is held then a provisional C Category permit to drive rigid vehicles over 3500kg with a trailer of up to 750kg and E licence can be applied for. Once this licence is obtained a provisional D1 and E licence can be applied for. Acquiring the D1 licence which allows Vehicles to be driven with nine to sixteen passenger seats and a trailer of up to 750kg can then allow you to apply for the D and E provisional licence and in turn acquire the D Category driving licence. This allows you to legally operate any bus with more than eight passenger seats with a trailer over 750kg.  Upgrades  also apply when you have passed a test in a larger vehicle in turn upgrading a lower category for example, a lorry licence can upgrade a bus and car licence.  It is also important to note that if you are a member of the armed services C, C&E, D1 & D1 & E licences can be acquired at the age of 17.  Other licences include the  G and H categories which cover road rollers and tracked vehicles.

Those who design bucket trucks and other types of trucks for use by utilities companies and local governments have a uniquely challenging job.  Designers need to always keep in mind the many and varied tasks these trucks will be expected to perform and yet never compromise on safety features.

Yet another thing that adds to the complexity of bucket truck design is the repercussions of deregulation on the American electric utility industry.  This deregulation has forced utilities to change the way in which their workers are utilized, and in turn, changes the way equipment is used as well.  Since electric utilities are now expected to be more competitive, many are streamlining their crews, using fewer workers to get the same number of jobs done.

As utility crews get smaller, the demand for smaller aerial devices on a smaller chassis is increasing.  Even though a smaller truck can translate into cost savings, these smaller trucks are also expected to perform more functions.  And since these trucks will be fewer, yet working harder, the end users also expect less in the way of maintenance time and expense.

So, a designer needs to calculate optimum replacement times, and the manufacturer generally gets involved in helping to provide outsourced maintenance and rental and leasing options.  They always keep in mind that vehicles are expected to be more productive, while costing less to run. Durability and reliability are key.

Safety however, is one of the designer’s biggest concerns. Since so many bucket trucks are used by electric utility companies, a designer is always aware that working with electricity is a dangerous business. At the same time, lengthy power outages are not tolerated by the public, so crews need to be able to work as quickly as possible.  Designers are constantly looking at aerial devices in particular when thinking about how to improve safety on bucket trucks.

Most manufacturers of bucket trucks  are also being proactive in providing information and training for their customers.  One of the most important aspects of accident prevention is properly training those who will be the end users. Even the best-designed equipment can be involved in accidents if it is used incorrectly, or not used for its intended purpose.

With the changing regulatory environment, utility companies have to become more efficient, so they will spend their money on the bucket trucks that meet their needs best. This in turn spurs designers and manufacturers to look at ways in which they can design a safer, smarter vehicle that can handle the workload that the client has.

Even if maintenance crews weren’t getting smaller, bucket trucks that are smaller, safer and more efficient are still an excellent bet for those who need to use them.  Manufacturers just need to be sure they stay on top of the market and its needs, so that projects they have in the pipeline are ones that can also match their customer’s needs and expectations.  Making a truck that utility companies really want to buy is a winning proposition for all parties.

In the earlier times, HGV was quite popular unlike today where the once admired HGV has shown some decline in its popularity. Despite the misconceptions about HGV industry, many people still opt for a career in the HGV industry. HGV delivers heavy and bulky cargo between factories as well as warehouses and hence require a strong driver capable of manoeuvring a truck as big and heavy as a HGV to avoid causing accidents.

It’s not only expensive but also very difficult to get a license to drive a HGV. HGV has two categories of driving license, N2 and N3 license. The N2 license is meant for drivers going for a HGV that can carry between 3.5 and 12 tons of maximum allowed mass, while N3 license is for drivers that can drive a HGV that can carry more than 12 tons.

There are two ways how one can get the HGV license. One way of getting the HGV license is by getting somebody who will sponsor you, the other method is by paying for the license yourself. However, paying for a HGV license yourself is a much better option as compared to looking for sponsorship. Though not impossible, finding a sponsor is usually very hard and requires that you join a company that will provide free training for you to drive a HGV. The trouble with free company training is that you will not only have to work for the company upon the completion of your training but also buy your own HGV. On the other hand, when you pay for the license yourself, you will get the license after successfully taking a few lessons and passing some tests. The advantage of this is that you are free to work for anyone of your choice, or better still you can drive your own HGV.

The other rule of driving a HGV is that all HGVs must have HGV insurance. The main purpose of the HGV insurance is to safe guard not only your interests but your client’s as well more so when you operate HGV business. HGV insurance is costly; however, if your HGV is covered by insurance, it will increase your credibility which is good for your business. Since HGV insurance is mandatory, make sure you get HGV insurance when buying your HGV to avoid being caught on the wrong side of the law that will cost you dearly which is not good for business.

Though very expensive, goods in transit insurance is the most ideal insurance for your HGV since it covers your HGV against loss, damage or both. To have a peace of mind, it’s worth price. This type of insurance comes in handy whenever accidents involving your HGV occur when you least expect it. There are several other types of insurance on offer though the goods in transit insurance is the most suitable for HGV business. All HGV owners have to adhere to the rules if they don’t want any interference with their HGV business. In any case all vehicles on the road do require insurance be it a HGV or a car, after all, it is for your own good.

Reflecting on the current economic turmoil, many people are finding it difficult to decide which career is the safest for them given that recession is knocking on everyone’s door around the world. There is no more job security as more and more companies keep on downsizing and sending home many helpless employees both skilled as well as unskilled in order to survive. However, as much as more and more people are getting retrenched due to the effects of recession, there are certain jobs that are immune to recession. HGV driving is one of the jobs that are not affected by recession.

There are several reasons why HGV drivers are very secure with their jobs despite recession playing havoc in many different industries as far as job securities are concerned. First and foremost, goods  such as food as well as other domestic items will always be needed by the public whether there is recession or not. For these goods to reach the entire population, HGV drivers will have to deliver them in different parts of their respective countries. Therefore HGV drivers are the lucky few whose jobs are very secure even in this economic climate.

To facilitate the economy get back on track, many governments are giving out new stimulus packages. Because of these packages, several constructions are mushrooming in several places to create more jobs. Therefore construction materials have to be delivered to the construction sites thus increasing the demand for HGV drivers to deliver these materials.

The other advantage of HGV drivers is their hefty pay packages. HGV drivers earn a lot more than the national yearly average wage as indicated during the last couple of years. This is a big advantage for HGV drivers whose jobs are not only secure, but also pays better than what an average worker earns in these economic times that are full of uncertainties.

The flexibility of working hours for the HGV drivers is particularly ideal for those with small kids at home and would love to have some quality time with their loved ones. You can are allowed to work as little or as much as you want. You are also free to opt for jobs within your hometown of jobs far away from home. There are very few industries that enjoy such flexibility at work.

The other benefit of working in the HGV industry is the attractive insurance as well as health packages. Apart from getting to choose your own convenient working hours, you have a secure, well paying job that still offers you great insurance as well as health benefits. There are very few careers that can beat that combination.

Due to the misconceptions most people have about the HGV industry, many people are not so eager to opt for a career in the HGV industry with the misperception that the job keeps you away from your family when you opt to work far away from home failing to realize the fact that it is up to you to decide where and how long you would like to work.

In case you are still undecided as to which career to go for, the HGV industry could just be the one for you where all you have to do to qualify is pass a HGV driving test and you will be ready to start reaping the benefits in the HGV industry where your job will not only be secure, but also pay you well despite the current recession whose effects are being felt worldwide.

Big Rig Alcoa Wheels

Anyone in the trucking industry that is familiar with these wheels knows you can get them to shine like new money, … but getting them to keep that shine is another story entirely. I know, … I was part of that picture in years past as a fleet maintenance person for a fleet of white semi trucks.

You could easily blow an entire shift just doing the wheels on one tractor. And, it’s a messy thing to do because you’re black after doing the first four wheels. I highly recommend wearing long sleeved coveralls.

There are a lot of owner/operators and fleet maintenance guys out there that know what I’m talking about.

When I worked on the rigs, I got a little fed up with doing the trucks over and over every two months. There were other things that had to be done on the trucks too. So I developed and used a secret that gave the wheels a glossy look and longevity after polishing them. My employer loved the results.

Here’s what I did. First of all, the electric buffer the shop had, went on the top shelf in the tool room, that’s where it stayed, It was replaced with a high speed air powered Ingersol Rand buffer that was good for at least twice the speed of the electric one. Then the buffing compound the company was buying got canceled for further purchases to our shop.

Now I stocked the shelf with two different products to replace that one. We now used ‘Mothers Aluminum Mag Wheel Polish’ available at any auto parts store at a third the price of what they were using. The other product was a good quality semi-liquid car wax in a squeeze bottle (any name brand), and some small empty reusable work dishes a little bigger than a baseball.

Are you ready to polish a wheel on a highway tractor?

Lets do a front wheel together.

First, remove the baby moon cap if applicable, then remove all the lug nut simulators (lug nut covers) if applicable.

Spray the wheel down with Simple Green and scrub it with a standard car wash brush. Get the whole wheel but be gingerly around the grease cap. Then use a high pressure hose or pressure washer to rinse the wheel.

Now empty a entire can of Mothers into a empty dish. Add a little of the wax. Your trying for a ratio of three quarters mothers and one quarter wax. Mix this material until it looks like one product with no swirls in it.

Put on your coveralls and safety glasses. Apply this mixture to the Alcoa wheel one section at a time, then use your buffer to polish the application. Then do another section and go on from there until the whole wheel is polished, even between the lug nuts. Keep the buffer away from the grease cap and sidewall of the tire. As you’re doing this the wheel may turn black. That’s okay, keep going. Your shop floor, and you will turn black too.

After you’re done machining the wheel, use a clean dry rag and start rubbing the wheel down until all the residue is rubbed off (that’s a pretty piece of metal under that black stuff isn’t it). It should look almost like chrome. Examine your work for foggy area’s or other area’s you may not be satisfied with. Touch them up with the buffer and compound as needed. Then rub the black residue off again when done machining. Make sure all black residue is removed from the whole wheel, including between the lug nuts and along the edge of the rim.

When you’re satisfied with a uniform shine, …. put the hardware back on the wheel and wipe down the sidewall of the tire with a nice tire dressing. Move on to the next wheel and repeat the procedure.

On rigs with aluminum tanks, I’ve also used this method to shine the tanks, if I felt the surface of the tanks would take a shine. Some aluminum tanks are in rough condition, or manufactured too rough to shine. You would have to try a sample area to see if your tanks would shine or not.

Why the mixture?

I discovered the mothers does the hard work and adding the wax at just that ratio helps your project last longer, ‘longevity’. Plus wax helps seal the surface of the metal wheel and ads to the shine effect.

It would be great if you could just eliminate all the “jerks” in your life. You wouldn’t have to put up with annoying people who are rude to you. You wouldn’t have to start and stop your car in heavy traffic. You wouldn’t have to wonder about that awful clunking sound when your car shifts from one gear to another.

The bad news is the jerks who are people and the car jerking related to driving in traffic congestion cannot be fixed with mobile car service. The good news is Mobile Car Care can help with the clunking sound which makes you clench your teeth as the sound of metal on metal resounds through the car. With the sophisticated diagnostic and repair equipment on mobile car care vans, you can eliminate the transmission jerks from your life with convenience and ease.

Slip Sliding and Flushing Away

Most vehicles today are manufactured with automatic transmissions, but there are plenty of manual gearboxes in cars of all ages. The transmission is a complex piece of equipment that is essential to your car’s smooth operation. Actually the transmission is a set of mechanical systems which can include hydraulic, electrical and computerised units. That is why Mobile Car Care vans are equipped to deal with a variety of common transmission problems.

What are the typical car transmission repair needs which can be handled by a mobile car care service? You might be surprised to learn that most problems can be fixed in your driveway or at your place of business. You don’t have to try and manage your life or balance your business needs without an essential car or van because a repair shop keeps it for days at a time.

Mobile Car Care can handle a wide range of transmission issues and repairs.

* Slipping
* Leaking fluid
* Won’t shift
* Jerks when trying to shift into park or reverse
* Computer problems
* Shift throttle cable problems including breakage
* Normal wear requiring complete overhaul
* Linkage vacuum hoses broken or worn
* Loose electrical connections

Naturally these are not all of the transmission problems which can occur, but they are the most common. From replacing computerised modules to flushing the transmission, the Mobile Car Care van is prepared to deal with all of the common repair needs your transmission may require. In the unlikely event the problem requires special tools and cannot be fixed at a remote site, the Mobile Car Care workshop is fully equipped with trained mobile mechanics ready to get your car quickly back in action.

Smooth Shifting

The type of transmission repair your vehicle needs depends on the problem of course. The mobile repair van is fully equipped to make and accurate diagnosis and then repair the problem. Repairs include sealing leaks, replacing parts such as sensors and solenoids, tightening electrical connections, replacing broken linkages, and even doing a complete transmission overhaul.

It is important that vehicle owners detect transmission problems as soon as possible just like it is important to do regular maintenance. Signs a transmission problem exists include leaks under the car, vibrations or odd sounds, car refusing to shift smoothly, or car refusing to shift at all. Vehicle owners should check fluid levels and connections regularly.

Businesses operating fleets of cars and/or vans can take advantage of the Mobile Car Care on-site service program to prevent problems. For example, service programs include periodic transmission flushing.

Mobile Car Care can handle most of the typical transmission problems wherever your vehicle is parked.

Mobile Car Care is a fully trained Mobile Mechanics and Auto Electricians servicing company. Our Mobile Mechanic Service Units are fully equipped to perform all car repairs, auto electrical repairs, and car, commercial and 4WD service. For more information, visit Mobile Mechanics Melbourne.

All it takes is some know-how, and in a few simple steps you’ll take your truck or SUV from a worn-out hauler to a parking lot dreamcicle. For specifics, we went to Stylin’s in-house detailing expert Jim Sacco.

Center Out, Top Down
The art of detailing the interior could be summed up in four words: Center out, Top down. There needs to be a rhyme and reason, says Sacco, to taking care of the inside. You start at the top and work your way down, and from the center console outward. If you vacuum the carpet, for example, then touch up the vinyl, you’ll just dirty up the carpet and have to vacuum again.

“You start with the headliner,” Sacco said. “Make sure that it is clean because when you roll down the windows all that dirt and dust blows from the bed into the interior; its even worse if you have a sliding rear window.” Just hit the headliner with a vacuum attachment. And go easy, headliner fabric can be tender.

Next up are the windows. Our resident expert told us the best way to clean the glass is to use microfiber towels or – believe it or not – newspaper to avoid wet streaks and spots. But most importantly, stay away from ammonia. “If you have window tint, you don’t use anything with ammonia,” Sacco said. “Some glass cleaners contain ammonia, which can turn your tint purple.”

Attention to Detail
We’re not done yet. Getting a freshly detailed look to your interior requires a keen attention to detail. Let’s start on the dash and door panels.

A good wipe down with a cleaner like Meguire’s Vinyl/Plastic Detailer, or SmartWax SmartDressing plastic trim detailer and soft brush will suffice, Sacco said. “Use a soft brush that will not scratch,” he said. “Especially if your truck has a center console around the shifter. With the gear selector down on the floor, a lot of dirt and dust collects in the crevasses.”

To add a little shine to where you park your behind, Sacco recommends giving the seats a good wipedown with a damp cloth. This’ll get some of the dirt off. “Or a vacuum if your interior is cloth,” he said. “You don’t want to use a vacuum on leather because you could scratch it.”

Mmmmm, Beef!
And speaking of leather, Sacco found that using a dedicated leather cleaner and conditioner like SmartWax Leather Cleaner or Meguire’s Leather Spray could give your truck interior an award-winning glow as well as maintain the fabric. “Use the leather cleaner first. Then once it dries, hit it with a leather conditioner,” he said. “The cleaner opens up the pores in the leather and puts back its natural supple feel. And the conditioner also puts the natural nutrients and oils back into the leather.”

What you notice with a conditioner, Sacco said, is that the leather will darken, changing back to its original color and returning to the original texture. And remember, peep the details. “You got to make sure that you hit all the corners of the seats,” he said. “I usually use a soft towel or wash cloth to wipe it on – I just use my hand and wrap it in a towel. It lets met get down into all the creases and wrinkles.”

Finish up the interior with a thorough vacuum of the floor and mats. Afterward, take the floor mats out and give them and the carpet a good cleaning. Sacco recommends using SmartWax SmartCarpet.

Achieving the look of a winning show truck takes a meticulous eye, Sacco said, and focusing from the “Center out, top down” method will makes things go much smoother.

Time for the outside

Once you get the inside, it’s time to get busy on your exterior.

“Make sure the truck is parked in a cool, dry spot; you don’t want the surface hot,” Sacco said. “If you do it in the sun, it will eventually leave dry spots on your truck.”

Next, of course, is to get your truck wet. Using Meguiar’s® Gold Class™ Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner, for example, can provide enough suds to clean your vehicle. You could also use SmartCarwash™ Premium Wash & Wax Shampoo for an easy to use, simple wash and rinse.

Lest we forget your shoes: The wheels are also part of the washing process. Shoq Wheel & Tire Cleaner by Voodoo Ride® can take care of the brake dust, road tar, dirt and other crud on your wheels and tires. “It protects the vehicle and the wheel from the corrosion,” Sacco said about the importance.

Check out Jim demonstrating VooDoo Ride Shoq Tire and Wheel Cleaner:

After a thorough wash and rinse, use the Water Blade from the California Car Duster® Kit to dry your truck with ease. The kit comes equipped with the Water Blade, a silicon polymer squeegee as well as microfiber towels.

“They absorb the water really well,” Sacco said. “And get the water right out of the way.” Sacco said when you detail it’s best to place your shine on the tires before the whole vehicle. “The reason it that in some of the older cars and heavy duty trucks, you’ll see the little rust spots. They will start from the front wheel back. That is actually the brake dust bonding to the paint and eating it from the outside in.”

Once the truck is nice and dry and wheels and tires are handled, it’s time to apply the body shine. Meguiar’s® Gold Class™ Liquid Wax would be a good choice. When using wax, make sure you cover the intended area even and thoroughly to better avoid swirl marks.

Your truck is sparkling and glowing, but it’s time to close out the process with a final touch-up. Having a product like High Shine Quick Detailer by DA Motorsports or the Pro Finish Protectant places that exclamation point on your vehicle.

Adding a detailer will help to remove light fingerprints and achieve a high-gloss finish while protectant also acts as a seal against dirt, grime or other particles that could stain your truck’s finish.

“You want to wax it to seal the gloss shine in there,” Sacco said. “That is going to bring the wet darkness back your truck and keep your truck looking nice.”

Bed Rugs and Bed liners
As time goes on, your bed collects its share of bumps and bruises. With all the cargo you hump on your truck – along with Mother Nature’s wrath – the bed almost looks like a scratch pad than anything else. Bed rugs can provide the protection you need to hide rust and embarrassing scratches in your bed.

Our friends from Bed Rug shows how easy it is to install one.

If rugs aren’t your cup of tea, then a good old bed liner could do the trick. Bed liners provide the protection of all the bumps and dings your truck will get throughout its travel. They usually come in the roll-on, spray-on and drop-in plastic. There are many words to describe the benefits of bed liners, but at Stylin’, we think two would suffice: Free shipping.

During April, which is CPR month, Stylin’ will take care of the mail costs when you purchase any Herculiner product.

See Stylin’ Joe Wagner talking about his Herculiner:

Handle Relocators
When you’re preparing for the show or just want that smooth look for your tailgate handle, a handle relocator gives you the alternative to the OEM standard by moving your handle to the inside of your tailgate.

Tonneau Covers: Security, Cargo Protection, Gas Mileage

The choice to accessorize your pickup truck with a high-quality truck bed cover is a good one. Tonneau covers give your cargo protection from the elements. They also help with gas mileage, by streamlining the shape of your truck and allowing air to pass smoothly over the bed surface. In the case of hard tonneau covers, they add a significant amount of security for your expensive items.

Soft Tonneau Covers
Soft tonneau covers offer great cargo protection for minimal investment. They are manufactured out of tough automotive-grade vinyl and feature a lightweight aluminum frame. The modular design of soft bed covers allows them to be shipped for minimal cost and makes installation easy, typically requiring no tools and taking less than 15 minutes.

Hard Tonneau Covers:
Hard tonneau covers typically cost more than soft bed covers, but the benefits are well worth it. They offer the best cargo protection that money can buy and practically turn your truck’s bed into a lockable trunk. They keep tools, custom suspension and stereo equipment, and anything else safe from thieves.

Here’s a cool tip to preserve your cover from Sport Truck: Due to space limitations, hard tonneau covers tend to be stored on one end and leaned up against a wall, which often scratches the edges. To solve this dilemma, cut a few lengths of heater hose, slit them down the middle, and slide them over the edges of the tonneau cover.

If your truck is your world, then the bed is your playground. There are a variety of accessories that can add many dimensions to your vehicle. If you want to secure your cargo or improve your truck’s performance, Stylin’ is the source for what you need.
