1987 Suzuki Samurai Turbo Diesel

This is my Samurai that I converted to diesel via the ACME Adapters kit. Motor is a 1.6 TD out of a 1989 VW Jetta. This is just kind of the first start up after everything has been put together. Other modifications to come, feel free to comment.

So, total, how much did that cost you to do? I just picked up a Samurai and this is the first thing on my to-do list.

How long did it take you to swap motors, and what kind of adapter plates do you have to have? Can you use samurai’s transmission or have to use the VW’s? Im gettin ready to put a 1.6 or 1.9 turbo in mine…

Nice, I want to convert mine just the same but can’t until we move because of lack of space. Its amazing how well those engines fit, they look stock. Clean up that wiring and yours would look like it came like that from the factory.

It depends on if you are an experienced mechanic or not as far as time goes. For someone that has skills you could do it easily in two weekends. The Zukes trans will be reused, you will have to get a new pressure plate, oil filter adapter, flywheel, starter, fuel filter adapter, and water pump pulley. And of course you need an adapter for engine to trans. I would suggest going with a carbed engine because if not it gets expensive and its allot more involved. Good luck mate!

The perfect theme song for a VW Diesel engine is “Turning Japanese” by the Vapors.

The best part is the old stove sitting in his yard!!!

@drewditty -it’s not in his yard. it’s in the shed. and it was only there because his dad had back surgery and couldnt get it into his pickup to haul it off. I hope you feel better about yourself.
